DETROIT (AP) — Quicken Loans owner Dan Gilbert hopes his company’s move to Detroit will help create a technology hub downtown. The online mortgage giant says in a release that 1,700 workers will work downtown when Quicken and several sister companies move their headquarters to Detroit in August. Quicken announced in 2007 that it would move to Detroit, but switched gears when the national economy turned south. With Quicken’s move to the Compuware Corp. building and GalaxE Solutions locating downtown, Gilbert is calling a section of Woodward Avenue, “Webward Avenue.” The company says its recruiting similar businesses to the area. Gilbert says several restaurants have released plans to open near Quicken’s offices.
